The Snake Pit

Among the Lamia of Lamnar Jungle, organized events are scarce, but primitive rituals are as common as forked tongues. Though the Lamia hold their elusive Quetzalcoatl god in the highest esteem, even the most important religious rituals pale in comparison to the Snake Pit.

Hidden somewhere in the hazardous jungle surrounding the Lamia Village is a large, open pit, unremarkable save for the bones which litter the floor, and the unmistakable scent of serpents. The Snake Pit is the most sacred part of Lamia culture, having served as a breeding, feeding, and burial ground for ages, or at least as long as any living Lamia can remember. Some claim that all Lamia are born with an internal compass which leads them to the pit, whether they are aware of its existence or not. Though the snake-women are exceptional at designing and crafting comfortable beds, they will always choose the crude dirt pit when they find a partner who they cannot live without. Mating in the Snake Pit is far from an act of consummation, but at the same time, it is a step up from Lovers Lane or Makeout Point. Some Lamia will go their entire lives without bringing a partner to the pit, for only true reptile love may sanctify the bone-covered grounds. Any outsider who discovers the pit, whether purposefully or by accident, is guilty of the most grievous offense under the otherwise lax Lamia law. The pit remains a popular feeding ground in this regard, as wily Lamia will often lead unsuspecting travelers to the pit in order to enjoy a perfectly legal meal. Indeed, non-Lamia who set eyes upon the pit must be eaten to preserve the secrecy of its location. When a Lamia is close to death, if they are capable of moving, they can often be found struggling toward the pit, where they may pass upon sacred ground. Other Lamia do not grieve in such a case, and will dutifully bury their dead, or simply devour the body if it has just passed on.

Though the pit has seen heavy Lamia usage in the past, many Lamia in the village currently complain about two particular women who could be accused of 'hogging the pit' for intimate purposes, and a third who drags a few too many travelers there to sate her pregnancy cravings...
